Zoox is on an ambitious journey to develop a full-stack autonomous mobility solution for cities. Big data analysis and mass simulation are critical to proving the safety of our system. Simulation environment enables the identification and study of potential safety issues before they manifest in the real world. The effectiveness of the safety measures can also be verified and validated without putting public road users at risk.
Our team builds tools and pipelines to quantitatively measure the performance of our driving software, extract relevant safety events from driving logs, and explore interesting scenarios in simulation. This highly visible work is critical to accelerating the development of AI driving software and building the safety case for autonomy on public roads.
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team developing these challenging simulation optimization pipelines and analysis tools. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, mentorship, project scoping & prioritization, and continuous improvement of our development workflows.
Manage a team of engineers building tooling and automated pipelines to generate and analyze challenging simulations for our AI stack
Improve processes and drive the team to deliver high quality software tooling in support of the company’s mission
Reach out and work collaboratively with cross-functional partners and stakeholders to successfully deliver projects that significantly contribute to the success of the overall Safety Case of Zoox technology
Mentor engineers and grow the team to achieve our ambitious goals
MSc in computer science, robotics, or related technical fields
7+ years of industry experience in software engineering or other modeling and simulation role
2+ years of experience with leading direct reports
Fluency in Python
Have experiences shipping a product or software tool, preferably related to modeling or simulation
Experience with industry tooling and best practices: GitHub, production-level coding, scientific libraries and visualization tools, etc.
Experience with the rigorous verification and validation of complex robotics/software systems
Demonstrated ability to operate in an agile environment and to distill clarity for a team from ambiguous problem statements
PhD in the Robotics field, Computer Science, or related technical fields
Professional experience in an autonomous driving technology company
Hands-on experience with contributing to a Safety Case of complex cyber-physical systems
Experience with cloud and infra technologies (AWS, S3, SQL, Databricks, Airflow) and coding best practices (GitHub)
Employees working in this position will be required to have received a single dose of the J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine OR have completed the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series.
