Privacy Counsel (Remote USA)

The role of Privacy Counsel will be to develop and implement company strategy for complying with global privacy, electronic marketing, and adtech and martech regulations, including analyzing applicable privacy and electronic marketing statutes and regulations, developing compliance strategies, and communicating internally and externally regarding the company’s positions and practices. This position requires the ability to understand how software is developed and how data is obtained, processed, and disclosed, so a technical background or aptitude is strongly preferred. 


  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in areas of data privacy and electronic marketing and communications laws and regulations (including U.S. state and federal privacy laws, CAN-SPAM, GDPR, PIPEDA, PECR, and other global privacy and electronic communications laws), as well as technological developments, evolving industry standards, and industry guidance that may impact marketing and marketing uses of personal data, and advise on the impact of the same
  • Understand company products and practices, and the product development process, to assist in development of privacy-forward compliance strategies
  • Provide support to members of the legal team on privacy and electronic marketing matters
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on adtech and martech privacy issues; proactively identify recurring issues and develop recommendations pertaining to adtech, martech, and use of cookies and tracking technologies, and compliance with marketing-related regulations; and provide appropriate advice and guidance to, and effectively collaborate and communicate with, business units
  • Analyze new product developments, client and business unit requests, and changes to company practices and workflows, and provide guidance on privacy implications
  • Regularly review, update, and draft company and website privacy policies, cookies policies, and other privacy notices and disclosures
  • Communicate regarding privacy-related practices and procedures to business units, and explain privacy practices and legal positions to clients, vendors, and other stakeholders
  • Perform other tasks or duties as requested by the company’s Privacy Counsel


  • J.D. and a license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction required
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience required
  • One year or more of direct experience applying U.S. and European privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially those relevant for electronic marketing, strongly preferred
  • Technical degree or experience in software development, data science, or a similar field strongly preferred
  • CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or other IAPP privacy certifications a plus
