The Freemium R&D team oversees the entire user journey on Spotify and ensures we engage with people in innovative ways, every step of the way. Our team grows Spotify’s audience by finding future listeners around the world and delivering the right value to them, at the right time. We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to help drive user growth through new products and experiences that fuel connections and curiosity in Spotify. You will drive innovation in user acquisition, engagement and long-term growth by discovering, developing and optimizing new strategic product and marketing initiatives.

Your mission is to turn our hundreds of petabytes of data into insights that impact the strategy and direction of Spotify. You will study user behavior, marketing strategies, markets, content and new features to craft how we approach user growth. Above all, your work will shape how we make Spotify accessible and delightful for more people around the world!


What You’ll do


  • Work as part of a cross-functional team of product, data science, tech, design and user research
  • Identify the most suitable insights methods (EDA, experimentation, causal inference, regression methods, ML etc.) to support all stages of product development cycle
  • Set a strategic framework to identify and prioritize new projects by evaluating and forecasting their potential for growth impact
  • Impact product strategy by leading foundational research & experimentation initiatives to develop a deeper understanding of our product and our users
  • Identify scope for mixed methods projects, partnering with user research and business analytics to unearth more powerful insights
  • Establish and maintain a culture of rigor and data curiosity to drive tangible business impact

    Who You Are


  • A PhD / MS degree in Econometrics, Statistics, Data Science or similar field (focus on causal inference / experimentation / scaled measurement)
  • 5+ years experience with mixed data approaches (analytics, analytic tools, and data science); experience with rapid product development for a consumer facing tech company preferred
  • Strong analytical skills, including analysis and modeling of big data, statistics, A/B testing, and experimental design required
  • Deep understanding of a breadth of modeling techniques (e.g. regression models, causal inference in marketing and product launches, advanced Bayesian techniques)
  • Strong SQL skills and advanced programmatic expertise, like R or Python
  • Extensive experience using various analysis techniques, such as linear and logistic regression, significance testing, and statistical modeling
  • An extraordinary storyteller and communicator, able to speak fluently to product managers, designers, engineers and other collaborators (in English)
