The Freemium R&D team oversees the entire user journey on Spotify and ensures we engage with people in innovative ways, every step of the way. Our team grows Spotify’s audience by finding future listeners around the world and delivering the right value to them, at the right time. We are looking for an Engineering Manager with a strong background in Data/ML to develop a team of engineers that share a common interest in People, Tech and Delivery. The person in this role grows and develops machine learning and data engineers in a healthy and innovative environment, continuously improving our engineering practices, delivering pioneering machine learning applications while keeping it safe and fun. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences music and audio content.

Our group

 

  • Builds real-time and recommendation-based products that increase awareness, engagement, and retention with Spotify
  • Deploys and evolves models that use a variety of ML techniques for Spotify’s growth research teams
  • Builds and maintains datasets for use across Spotify’s marketing and growth teams
  • Drives R&D projects from experimentation to production, working with designers, mobile and full-stack engineers, and marketing specialists

    What you’ll do

     

  • Lead a team developing new R&D hypotheses, using machine learning to scale Spotify’s user base
  • Work closely with product, insights and design to sustain and improve our team’s culture, facilitate delivery, and develop strategy and execution with our leads
  • Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices and help develop and promote great engineering and organizational practices.
  • Build upon Spotify’s ML infrastructure to deliver production-scale, end-to-end solutions
  • Collaborate with other teams on relevant topics like data science and experimentation, machine learning applications, and systems design.
  • Be accountable for your team’s technology strategy, and curating standard methodologies for machine learning development and delivery
  • Develop a team of ML engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback and hands-on career development
  • Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with Spotify’s values

    Who you are

     

  • Passionate about machine learning and optimization problems
  • Experienced leading development of large scale production ML systems, driving projects from experimentation to deployment
  • Experienced with industry-standard frameworks such as Tensorflow or Scikit-learn
  • Experienced with distributed processing systems such as Hadoop/Spark/Storm/Scio
  • Caring about user experience, data-driven development, system reliability, and responsible experimentation
  • Develop people and their careers, and have experience managing, coaching and mentoring software engineers
  • Comfortable working collaboratively on a multi-functional team. Working project-based, and also driving delivery on small to medium-sized initiatives.
