Engineering Manager – Data Platform – Consumer Experience

We’re looking for a passionate Engineering Manager to lead one of our Data and Machine Learning teams within the department responsible for the Spotify consumer experience beyond the Spotify mobile app spanning TVs, speakers, desktop, cars, wearables and a myriad of other integrations.

Our mission is to provide high-quality data products that cover the entire Ubiquity space and make them useful to teams across Spotify. We also foster a strong data culture by educating and empowering teams to build richer Spotify experiences.

The work we do enables teams to make business decisions based on reliable data and build rich and personalized experiences for Spotify users. We enable hundreds of Spotify engineers, product managers and data scientists: ultimately the user experience of hundreds of millions of users via more data-informed recommendations and user experience.


What you’ll do


  • You will build and lead a team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Drive and be accountable for technical delivery and excellence and work with your team on strategy and execution.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and data science teams to gather feedback and requirements for data needs within our department’s scope.
  • Facilitate collaboration with other engineers, product managers and data scientists in solving exciting and challenging Data and ML problems across our platforms and with our internal customers.
  • Advocate and evolve our data practices and help develop and evangelize for a strong data culture across our organization.
  • Grow the technical expertise of the team and maintain a healthy engineering culture in line with Spotify’s core values.
  • Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in our area and the broader organization.
  • Stay current on industry trends in Data and Machine Learning.

    Who you are


  • You have experience leading Data Engineering and/or Machine Learning teams.
  • You have prior experience as an Engineer in one or more of these areas: Data/Analytics, Machine Learning, Data Science.
  • You are comfortable collaborating with Product and Data Science stakeholders.
  • You understand the importance of high-quality data and have worked with your teams and stakeholders to adopt best practices for producing and consuming data.
  • Have experience in cultivating a strong engineering culture in an agile environment.
  • You get stuff done! As shown by working as an engineering manager in high performing teams.
  • Ability to trivialize data and tailor communication style to different audiences.
  • Experience working with data producing teams that instrument their features is a big plus.
  • Hands-on machine learning experience is a plus.
  • You set high standards for yourself and others.

  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the EMEA region in which we have a work location and is within working hours. 
  • Working hours? We operate within the Central European and GMT time zones for collaboration and ask that all be located in that time zone.
