The successful candidate will:

  • ‒  Provide legal guidance on product development, including privacy and security by design;

  • ‒  Develop, embed and maintain privacy controls in Splunk’s Common Controls Framework for product development;

  • ‒  Provide ongoing guidance to the Products (Legal) and Products (Engineering) organizations for escalated privacy and security questions;

  • ‒  Review new or acquired products, product features, and other product-related matters to ensure compliance with data protection laws;

  • ‒  Evaluate ML/AI integrated into Splunk products to understand and mitigate data protection risk;

  • ‒  Drive awareness for data protection in the product engineering organization, including development of training, policies, and guidelines that help stakeholders issue spot and address data protection/privacy/security issues;

  • ‒  Maintain and evolve policies for governance product-generated metadata;

  • ‒  Help shape a customer-centric framework for the use of data in product development;

  • ‒  Create strong, collaborative relationships with internal business partners and stakeholders;

  • ‒  Keep up with industry guidelines that relate to Splunk’s products, such as SOC2, ISO, HIPAA, PCI-DSS and FedRAMP;

  • ‒  Other responsibilities as needed


  • ‒  License to practice law in good standing in state where practicing;

  • ‒  At least 6-9 full years in product counseling, specifically in the areas of privacy (data protection)

    and security, concentration in SaaS a plus;

  • ‒  Proficient in the requirements of key data protection compliance programs in the EU/US (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA);

  • ‒  Proficient in the requirements of industry standard cloud security programs such as SOC2, ISO, HIPAA, PCI-DSS and FedRAMP;

  • ‒  Strong familiarity with emerging AI/ML technologies, network infrastructure and cyber security best practices;

  • ‒  A passion for privacy and security by design, data analytics, and data governance PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
